ARTS IN EDUCATION

Project AIRE (Artistic Influences=Revitalizing Education) is a New York City-based arts in education program which uses multiple forms of art to enhance literacy and promote community involvement.  We deliver uniquely-designed, comprehensive programs which promote professionalism and discipline, the celebration and respect of community artistry, the rich historical legacies that our bodies inherently possess, the contributions of our precedents, and creative and personal responsibility.  We continually refine our process through professional development training in the best practices in education and youth development, so that we can not only exceed benchmarks for teaching and learning in the arts as outlined by the New York City Department of Education, but state learning standards in traditional academic subjects such as ELA, social studies, career development/occupational studies, and health and physical education.

METHODOLOGY
The Teaching through Culture via the African Diaspora methodology adds a uniquely dynamic factor to Project AIRE:  the universal application of African-based creative/social/cultural principles.  This does not mean that we teach purely "African" dance, or that we advocate "African" based dance above all other genres, or that our programs are geared towards African-Americans.  Rather, it is the distillation of the particular characteristics originally found in the dance and drum circles of western Africa, and perpetuated by continental descendants in the Americas and other places, that we believe provides the ideal platform for true multifaceted learning.
